If you are an attorney under a lasting power of attorney for property and financial affairs, gov.uk says you must keep the donor's money separate from your own and keep records of decisions, money and assets, and the Office of the Public Guardian can ask how the LPA is being used. This record keeper puts all of it in one workbook.

Made for family members and friends acting as attorney. Record every payment, gift, expense and important decision as you go, tick off each bank statement, and print a clear statement for any dates when a co-attorney, the family or the OPG asks.

▶ Easy Start Here guide included – video tutorial coming to our YouTube channel

Works in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, with no macros.

What it does for you

  • Transactions: every payment in and out of the donor's accounts, with a running balance per account and checks for missing receipts, payments to an attorney with no note and possible duplicates
  • Accounts: up to 20 accounts, each checked against the bank statement (Reconciled or the difference), with a flag for out-of-date statements and joint accounts
  • Gifts register: occasion, relationship, the donor's views and why the gift is reasonable, with checks for gifts not on a customary occasion, to someone not connected, to an attorney, or adding up over your own review amount in a tax year
  • Attorney expenses: mileage and out-of-pocket costs, what is owed and what has been repaid
  • Decisions log: important decisions with the donor's views, who you asked, any disagreement and a review-by date
  • Regular payments and Assets & Debts: what comes in and goes out each month, and a net worth snapshot
  • Statement: money in and out by category, balances at the start and end, gifts and expenses, with a sign-off for a co-attorney
  • Dashboard: totals, a "What needs your attention" list and charts of spending by category and where the money is
  • Up to 3,000 transactions and 200 gifts and decisions

How it works (3 steps)

  1. Set up once: the donor and LPA details on Settings and each account with its starting balance (about 10 minutes)
  2. Record as you go: payments on Transactions; gifts, expenses and decisions on their own tabs
  3. Check and report: enter each bank statement balance, clear anything flagged, and print the Statement when asked

Good to know

  • Cream (pale yellow) cells are for your input. White and grey cells are worked out for you, and the sheets are protected (no password) so formulas are not overwritten by mistake
  • A Health check on the Start Here tab and a Check/Status column on every log flag missing or odd entries
  • Based on gov.uk "Manage a lasting power of attorney" (your duties and keeping records, checked 02/11/2026): act in the donor's best interests, keep their money and property separate from your own unless you already share a bank account, keep records, only claim expenses for things you must do as an attorney, and give the OPG information about how the LPA is being used if asked
  • Gifts follow the OPG "Giving gifts" guidance (updated 25/02/2026): customary occasions only, to people connected to the donor or charities they supported, and a reasonable value for their estate. Other gifts need Court of Protection approval. The OPG does not set a gift limit; the review amount is your own choice
  • The checks flag entries to look at again. They do not decide whether a gift, payment or decision is allowed
  • Works for enduring powers of attorney (EPA) too. England and Wales. Dates show as DD/MM/YYYY
  • FAQ: Is it for deputies? No. Deputies appointed by the Court of Protection file their own OPG deputy report
  • FAQ: Can two attorneys share it? Yes, in Google Sheets you can both edit one copy; each expense and decision records who made it
