Autism Assessment
This document discusses evidence-based assessment for autism spectrum disorders. It covers several key points: 1) Early and accurate diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders is important so individuals can receive early intervention services before age 7. However, the average age of diagnosis is around 5 years old. 2) The gold standard measures for assessment include the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised, a standardized parent interview, and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, a standardized direct observation. 3) A comprehensive assessment should involve multiple sources of information, like parent interviews, direct observations, developmental history, and input from a multidisciplinary team including speech therapists and educators.
