While the modern, mainstream church emphasizes strict obedience to most any laws in existence, early Mormons held no such compunction about obedience to the legal system. Indeed, beyond polygamy, early Mormons believed that their religion only held them bound to obey the constitutional law of the land.
This short pamphlet, later incorporated into Silencing Mormon Polygamy, investigates this issue in terms of persecution and polygamy.
