Geometric Coloring Designs 4: Islamic Patterns
A circle is perhaps the simplest geometric shape, yet it can bloom into countless geometric patterns. Over the centuries, Islamic artists and architects crafted tremendous variety and beauty based on the symmetries created by dividing a circle.
Your students can build large, complex designs with the girih tile pattern blocks. Or use a pencil and ruler (compass skills not required!) to create five traditional geometric designs on the pre-divided circle templates.
For even more fun, get a group of friends together to work on the same design. Cut out your finished projects and arrange them like tiles to create a mural. Look for the new shapes created along the sides or corners where the tiles meet.
This 24-page printable (pdf) activity book includes eight pages of instructions, five pages of printable pattern blocks, and several circle template worksheets.
Available with 8 1/2 x 11 (letter size) or A4 pages.
For ages 10 and up.
