Lumang Simboryo (literally “Old Dome” or “Old Belfry”) is a well-loved Filipino band piece that reflects the nostalgic character of folk melodies heard across the country. Its title evokes images of old Spanish-era churches, whose crumbling domes or bell towers often serve as enduring symbols of community life and history.

The music itself carries a distinctly lyrical and hymn-like quality, suggestive of processions, festivities, and the blending of the sacred and communal that mark Filipino cultural identity. Through Pedro Concepcion’s arrangement, the piece was adapted for the Philippine concert band tradition, making it a staple in band repertoire across schools, towns, and festivals.

Today, Lumang Simboryo remains popular both as a performance piece and as a reminder of the Philippines’ deep musical heritage, balancing simplicity of melody with the grandeur of full band scoring.
