Strong Start: summer Transition Program for Black College Families
Strong Start: Summer Transition Program for Black College Families
Strong Start is a 4-week, culturally responsive summer transition program for incoming Black college students and their parents.
The summer before college is one of the highest-risk periods for:
- Summer melt
- Loss of momentum
- Isolation and imposter syndrome
- Poor first-semester adjustment
Most families are told their student will “figure it out.”
That approach fails too many Black students.
This program is designed to change that.
What families will gain:
- A clear understanding of what causes summer melt — and how to prevent it
- Tools to navigate campus culture, belonging, and identity
- Practical self-advocacy and support skills
- A concrete first-semester transition and support plan
Program details:
- Length: 4 weeks
- Format: Weekly live Zoom sessions
- Who attends: Students and parents
- Includes: Live sessions, guided resources, and replays
Start date: March 2
Investment: $397 per family
This is a paid pilot cohort with limited enrollment to ensure quality and engagement.
