THE HOMEMADE PHOTOSTUDIO
THE HOMEMADE STUDIO — €19
Real studio light. Zero budget.
A studio is not a room full of expensive flashes. It's a place where you decide where the light comes from, how soft it is, and what's behind your subject. You can do every part of that with things you already own: a bedsheet, baking paper, kitchen foil, a desk lamp and the biggest window in the house. I've worked in a professional studio for more than fifteen years, and I still use a white sheet and a clothes peg more often than you'd think.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
• What a studio really is: four parts, all already in your house
• The window: your free softbox, and four ways to use it
• Lamps and other lights: colour temperature, good LED bulbs, flicker and heat safety
• Soft light: sheets, shower curtains, net curtains and a baking-paper softbox
• Bounce and block: foil reflectors, white cards, car sun shades and black T-shirts
• Backgrounds: walls, blankets, paper sweeps, and why distance matters more than material
• Stands and clamps: brooms, pegs, ironing boards and a tripod made from a sock full of rice
• Camera at home: settings for weak light, white balance and LED flicker, also on a phone
• 6 step-by-step set-ups with diagrams: window portrait, low-key, high-key, kitchen-table product, food and flat lay, and creative tricks (bokeh, gels, shadow patterns, light painting)
• When you want more: your first five purchases, in the right order
ALSO INCLUDED
• Cheat sheet with starting settings for 9 set-ups
• Printable household checklist: build your studio box in 20 minutes
• 12 common mistakes and how to avoid them
