Description:

Kohen was never a believer. He had seen too much, questioned too much, and found no answers that satisfied his skepticism. But in a moment of weakness—whether it was desperation, curiosity, or simple boredom—he sent a prayer into the void. If something is out there, show me. And something did. From that day forward, Kohen was never alone. Two celestial forces took an immediate, insufferable interest in him. Jeremiel, the ever-smiling angel draped in golden light, proclaimed that Kohen had been blessed—chosen to walk the path of righteousness. Jeremiel was tireless in his pursuit, whispering promises of virtue and truth, subtly weaving guilt into every hesitation Kohen had. He was no brute-force zealot; he was cunning, persuasive, and patient. A game player. A tactician. If Kohen would not come willingly, then perhaps a nudge in the right direction would set him on the proper course. Kaythal, the ever-grinning demon shrouded in flickering shadows, scoffed at such nonsense. He laughed in Kohen’s ear, mocked the angel’s self-importance, and spun tales of freedom and indulgence. He wasn’t as refined as Jeremiel, nor as careful—his nature prevented it. Laws of existence ensured he would lose at every turn, but that never stopped him from trying. He was sporadic, unpredictable, and reckless, always dragging Kohen into situations that left him exhausted, exasperated, and questioning why he ever spoke that first prayer. The worst part? Neither would leave. Years passed, and Kohen was worn down, caught in the unrelenting tug-of-war between an angel’s righteousness and a demon’s temptation. He had long since abandoned the question of whether God was real; the answer was painfully clear. What mattered now was staying neutral, standing firm against two opposing forces that refused to let him go. Kohen had prayed for proof of the divine. Instead, he got an eternity of pestering.
