1er Régiment de Grenadiers-à-Pied - Napoleon's Old Guard
This product depicts The French Old Guard Grenadiers during the Napoleonic Wars (1805-1812) till the new uniform regulations in 1812 were issued. The Old Guard also known as the 1er Régiment de Grenadiers-à-Pied de la Garde Impériale was apart of the Garde Impériale. They were the most senior and elite regiment within Napoleon's Grande Armee. They were known by their fellow comrades as the immortals.
They were better paid, equipped, and trained compared to other Guardsmen and the rest of the Army. You would have had to serve for 15 years before joining the 1er Régiment de Grenadiers-à-Pied de la Garde Impériale. Many soldiers of the Old Guard would wear a gold earring in their ear and bear a mustache.
The 1er Régiment de Grenadiers-à-Pied de la Garde Impériale were disbanded in 1815 following their brave last stand at Waterloo. The regiment were officially re-established during Napoleon III's reign as the most senior unit within his army.
