Anger & Big Reactions


Anger is a normal feeling that everyone experiences. In this practical educational wellbeing session, children learn that anger is not a bad emotion, but a feeling that gives us important clues about what is happening inside our body and mind.

Through fun activities, discussion and a practical wellbeing tool, children learn how anger can grow from small feelings into bigger reactions, how to spot warning signs early, and what they can do to help their body calm down and make safer choices.


This session helps children learn to:

✔ Understand what anger is and why it happens

✔ Learn that all feelings, including anger, are okay

✔ Recognise that anger is often the brain’s way of trying to protect us

✔ Identify feelings that can sometimes sit underneath anger, such as worry, sadness, disappointment or embarrassment

✔ Notice body clues that tell us anger is growing

✔ Understand how feelings can grow from small to big

✔ Learn the difference between reacting and responding

✔ Practise calming strategies to help their body settle

✔ Make calmer and safer choices when emotions feel big

✔ Create their own personalised Calming Sensory Board to use when feelings start to grow
