Vesl

Vesl is a piezo noise box with a difference.

With a focus on personalisation and performance, this audio device has been designed to invite customisation and to encourage playful expression.  

Aesthetically, no two are exactly the same, with each box boasting a unique personality. Made from various vintage cigar boxes, they have a boutique, hand-built charm. Small enough to hold comfortably in your hands, yet still providing enough playable surface to attach any "sound generators" you choose, allowing you to fully customise this aspect of your noise box to your own individual tastes. 

The electronics feature a built-in pre-amp, specifically designed for use with a piezo ‘contact mic’ (included). This will allow you to amplify the vibrations (adjustable via a trimmer pot level control) and to send a line-level signal via the 6.35mm audio output jack socket.

Not only that, but there is also a built-in effects circuit (with separate in/out 6.35mm audio jacks), allowing you to route the pick-up output back through the on-board effects. This circuit features a characterful sounding delay — based on the PT2399 chip — offering both time and feedback controls. Add to that a diode-clipping, fuzz distortion and low pass filter for further tonal shaping, this boutique instrument is sonically versatile, allowing you to craft your sound without the need for external effects. 

If you want to experiment with additional effects, you can always run them into any effects units you already have, either by adding them to the end of the chain from the main output, or by inserting them before the FX circuit!

Vessel also provides CV in and CV out. This means that you can feed it control voltages from a modular or semi-modular synth to affect the decay time of the delay. Not only that, but you can actually create control voltages — by whatever the piezo is picking-up — and sending that CV out via the 3.5mm jack! This means you can play CV into your modular set-up using Vesl, or send the CV straight back to itself via the CV in, allowing you to directly play those delay modulations, using the box itself! 

All this makes for a very unique instrument.

Accessible, immediate and enormous fun to play.

If that wasn't enough, Vesl can also be used as a standalone effects unit, into which you can send any line-level signal from your favourite drum machine, synth, midi instrument or whatever else you wish to explore. With a suitable buffer pedal in front, you can even run guitar, bass or other instrument level signals through it!

All of this combines to make Vesl an endlessly customisable, responsive and expressive instrument and FX device!
