She was a shadow.

Forced into a life of serving the queendom before she was old enough to deny them, Brandi was a cultivator of death and the queen’s own blade, reserved only for the disloyal and the blasphemous. Crafted by the queendom and forged in blood, she was nothing more than a tool. She was never meant to have an opinion on whose blood she shed — never meant to question whose back she was pressed into or whose throat she was slipped across.

She was destruction.

But when Freya, the goddess of life and judger of souls, demands that she protect rather than destroy, Brandi has no choice but to obey her new orders. And while abandoning the queendom comes with its own set of problems, being hunted by the people she once called family is the least of her worries when the gods reveal to her an enemy who exists beyond the reach of their power. So, with a helpless princess in tow, she begins her search for a way to fight this impossible enemy and save the realm from destruction.

Because she is the wrath of the gods.

And it was foolish for anyone to forget that.

Super engaging

I went into this book totally blind, and it was worth the gamble. The "magic" system (I don't even know if that's the right word) and worldbuilding were unlike anything I've ever seen before and super well done. The characters were engaging and I wanted to know more about them immediately. The ending felt like An Ending - it obviously set up a sequel / series but it didn't make the entire book feel unresolved. I can't wait to read the next book(s) and find out what happens to these characters in this world.

Very good book, but a jarring ending

I very much enjoyed this book, until the end. The characters were distinct, the setting was intriguing, the plot was unique.

However, the ending feels there was a much longer book planned, but it got cut short in order to be submitted by a deadline or something. I've thought about this a lot, and I think it's because I would normally expect something like this:
- Book 1: the plot is about completing this quest.
- Ending of book 1: The characters have completed the quest, but in doing so discover that there's a connection to a Bigger/Longer Quest (which will either be book 2, or be an overarching plot for several books).

In this book, it's more like:
- Book 1: The plot is about completing this Bigger/Longer Quest, and this subquest needs to be done first
- Ending of book 1: The characters completed most of the subquest, but ran out of time so the gods made the last little bit happen anyway.

Don't get me wrong - I am definitely interested in buying more books in this series! It's worth reading, I just also think it's better if you know not to expect everything to get resolved by the end.

Did Not Disappoint!

We Are the Origin was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I really enjoyed it! I loved the gods, the action, the assassins, and the lovable monsters! This book had me trying to figure out which of the gods would’ve chosen me! (Either Freya or Lindl🥰 Maybe even Asari!) I didn’t necessarily love all the characters though, and I did find myself confused at times, but I had so much fun with this book and didn’t want to read anything else until I finished! I’m now impatiently waiting on the sequel!

Must Read

Really a 4.5
Loved this book. It's not my usual genre but the cover is beyond beautiful so I had to give it a go. The only reason it's not a 5-star read is that it wasn't my genre and some of the aspects of the story didn't stick with me but the main character is everything.
