FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

What Incoterm should a first-time Amazon FBA seller use?

Most experienced FBA sellers default to FOB (Free On Board) for their first several shipments. It splits responsibility sensibly between buyer and supplier, and it's easier to find a freight forwarder to handle your half compared to EXW, which puts the entire shipping process on you.

What is the difference between EXW and FOB?

Under EXW (Ex Works), the buyer is responsible for everything once the goods leave the factory — trucking, export paperwork, ocean freight, and import customs. Under FOB (Free On Board), the supplier handles trucking to the port and export customs, and the buyer's responsibility begins once the goods are loaded onto the vessel.

What documents do I need to import products for Amazon FBA?

At minimum: a Commercial Invoice, a Packing List, a Bill of Lading (for ocean freight) or Airway Bill (for air freight), and a Certificate of Origin. Some product categories require additional certificates — this guide includes a full breakdown by product type with real filled-in samples.

Does this guide include a landed cost calculator?

Yes. The guide includes a bonus Landed Cost Calculator spreadsheet that walks through a real example order, so you can calculate your true per-unit cost (product + freight + duties + fees) before placing your next order.

Is this guide only for sellers importing from China?

No — while many examples focus on sourcing from China (the most common scenario for FBA sellers), the core Incoterms, documents, and customs principles apply to importing from any country, and the guide includes country-specific notes for the US, UK, EU, and Canada.
