Working with clay involves lifting heavy loads and maintaining certain positions for long periods of time, which can lead to muscle tension, poor posture, and, in the worst cases, joint or muscle problems.
We are Manon (a physical therapist) and Karoline (a ceramicist). Together, we have developed a course specifically tailored to ceramicists/potters.
How can I protect my back when carrying heavy blocks of clay and working at the potter’s wheel? How do I prepare my muscles for the work? How can I relax and relieve tension in my body after work? All of this is explained in detail in six chapters by a physical therapist (Manon) using videos and photos (translated into English by Karoline).
The content has been pre-recorded. Watch the instructional material (total duration: 22 min) whenever and wherever you like. If you have any questions, you can contact us via email as a registered student.
This course is intended as a preventive measure. If you experience frequent or persistent pain during or after these activities, please seek medical or physical therapy advice locally.
You can choose whether you want to subscribe to a specific course or all courses per month.
The six chapters explain the following through slides, photos, and videos:

I'm Karoline, a ceramics teacher from France. Ceramics are way more than the creation of objects. And I want to respect this in my teaching. I offer courses on the fundamentals first. More courses on wheel-throwing and handbuilding are coming soon. All of my courses are available in English and German, some of them also in French.
