Pattern Overview

This hoodie is knit in 5 colour block stripes; both the body and the sleeves switch colours in the same rounds.

Short Rows

You will work this sweater from the top down, beginning with Japanese short rows that raise the back of the collar up the neck.

Yoke

You will then work the yoke in the round and increase the stitch count evenly over the depth.

Body

Once the yoke is complete, you will hold both sleeve stitches on scrap yarn or a stitch holder to help form the armholes, and then backwards loop cast on armpit stitches. After, you will continue to work the rest of the body in the round until you reach either the pattern length or your desired length. The hem will then be worked in 1x1 rib stitch and finished with a tubular bind-off.

Sleeve

Each sleeve will begin using the armpit stitches and the held stitches, and will also be worked in the round. The sleeves will not decrease, but will be worked straight. The wristband will be worked in 1x1 rib stitch and finished with a tubular bind-off.

Drawstring & Hood

If you choose to knit a hood, you’ll first knit a drawstring using the i-cord technique and set it aside. Stitches for the hood are either added from the unzipping of a provisional cast-on or picked up from a traditional cast-on edge. The hood will be worked flat in rows until a certain hood height is reached. You will then use Japanese short rows again to shape the hood. Once shaping is completed, you will pick up stitches along the sides of the hood and work a 1x1 rib drawstring band.

Modifications

  • Hood / no hood
  • Sleeve modifications: fitted sleeve, shorter/longer sleeve, wristband circumference

Techniques

Note: video tutorials linked within pattern!

  • Long-tail or Provisional Cast On
  • *Highly recommend provisional cast-on around a spare cord or silicon cord, or Judy's Magic Cast-on!*
  • Knitting in the round and flat
  • Picking up stitches (sleeves and collar)
  • Increasing/Decreasing
  • Japanese Short Rows
  • Grafting / K2Tog Bind-off / Whipstitch seaming (you choose)
