Kearsney Abbey grounds covers an area of about 10 acres of mainly open parkland with 2 ornamental lakes constructed along the course of the short River Dour, (approximately 4 miles long). It is one of only 200 chalk streams in the world! Russell Gardens is situated on the opposite side of the road and consists of more formal gardens and a lake. Situated 2.5 miles from Dover town centre the parks are popular spot for families and others.
You may be lucky and see a Kingfisher fishing the clear waters of the River Dour, and it is usually a reliable place to find Grey Wagtail. Little Egret and Grey Heron together with many 'water birds' are attracted to the river and small lakes and ook out for Treecreepers and Goldcrest in the parks.
