This headband was designed as a sister project to Star Jasmine Shawl. Gentle flowers bloom on the fabric again and again as the piece grows on the needles.

The headband features double layered fabric that is worked as a tube in the round starting from the back of the head. In the front, the band is separated into two strips which are twisted and then joined to be worked in one piece again. The headband can be either seamed or grafted at the back. The stitch pattern is mostly composed of 3x1 rib, with dip stitches worked once in a few rows on one side of the band. It can be worn two ways - with either the flowers or the plain ribbed side facing.

This pattern works great in a single colorway from solid to variegated. It can also be used for a two-toned band, with a contrasting color highlighting the jasmine flowers / dip stitches. Instructions for both are included. The pattern is both charted and written out. Both length and width are easily adjustable.

  • A spare pair of the same size for the twist

Gauge

  • 32 sts and 42 rows in 4” / 10cm in 3x1 rib, blocked
  • The gauge is not crucial for this pattern, because the length of the piece is used as a reference point instead of the number of repeats

  • The body of the band is mostly composed of 3x1 rib, with dip stitches worked once in every few rows on one side of the tube. The other side is plain 3x1 ribbing.
