Dudley Buck (1839–1909) was a prominent American composer, organist, and music educator during the Romantic era. He played a key role in shaping American sacred and choral music, especially through his work in churches and concert halls across the U.S. Buck studied in Leipzig and returned to the States with a European-influenced style that blended grandeur with spiritual depth.

This piece is one of Buck’s sacred anthems, part of his 6 Anthems, Op. 53, first published in 1871. It was originally written for SATB choir with organ accompaniment, and it draws its text from Psalm 72, evoking themes of divine blessing, peace, and enduring righteousness.
