Eli feels worried about meeting a new teacher. Join Eli, Maya and Mum as they explore some words of courage that Moses shared with the people of Israel and their new leader, Joshua. Moses will not cross the River Jordan with them, and he reminds them that God will go before them.

Moses encourages the people to be strong and courageous. Then he calls Joshua before all Israel and shares words of courage with him too. Joshua has a big responsibility ahead, and Moses tells him that God will be with him.

Original-series-style illustrations accompany this selected retelling. Separate modern family scenes encourage children to share their feelings, ask helpful questions and seek caring support when something feels new.

READING TOGETHER

Moses’s words are addressed to Israel and Joshua as they prepare to enter the land. Grown-up notes explain the conquest references omitted from the child-facing retelling and the chapters passed over between Numbers 27 and this passage. No warfare, death or river crossing is pictured. The modern teacher scenes are a separate example of asking for help, not an equivalent to Israel’s situation.

Courage does not mean hiding worry or doing something before a child is ready. God’s presence is not a promise that nothing difficult will happen. Children can pause, ask questions and seek help when something feels wrong. Welcome speaking, pointing, drawing and communication aids. The activities are invitations, not tests of faith or bravery; use safe materials with adult supervision.

Modern scenes are fictional; ancient settings and the characters’ appearance are imaginative. AI-assisted illustrations selected and reviewed for this edition.
