INFORMATION ABOUT TMJ RESOURCE
TMJ Assessment and Management Strategies
Including Craniocervical and Pelvic Interrelationships
A practical, clinically focused seminar for chiropractors
TMJ dysfunction is rarely just about the jaw. This comprehensive seminar explores the temporomandibular joint within the broader cranial, cervical, postural and pelvic system, giving chiropractors practical strategies for recognizing and managing the complex factors that may contribute to TMJ dysfunction.
Presented by David W. Hannah, D.C., D.A.C.O., the seminar moves from foundational anatomy and biomechanics into a systematic clinical approach to assessment, differential considerations, mandibular mechanics and conservative management.
Participants will explore TMJ examination procedures; normal and abnormal opening and closing mechanics; deviation and deflection; disc and mechanical dysfunction; facial and cranial assessment; cervical relationships; ascending and descending postural patterns; pelvic and postural-chain influences; muscle and soft-tissue involvement; mobilization and chiropractic approaches; adjunctive therapies; home-care strategies; airway and myofunctional considerations; and interdisciplinary dental and medical collaboration.
A major emphasis is placed on practical clinical application—helping participants connect examination findings with appropriate management decisions rather than simply learning TMJ theory.
Seminar participants will learn to:
- Perform a structured TMJ and craniofacial examination
- Recognize common mechanical and functional TMJ presentations
- Assess mandibular opening, closing, deviation, deflection and joint sounds
- Consider cranial, cervical, postural and pelvic interrelationships
- Integrate soft-tissue, mobilization and chiropractic management strategies
- Recognize when interdisciplinary collaboration or referral is appropriate
- Develop practical home-care and reassessment strategies
- Apply the material through clinical examples and case discussions
ASSESS → UNDERSTAND → MANAGE → INTEGRATE
This seminar is designed for chiropractors who want to become more confident examining TMJ patients, improve their clinical reasoning and expand their conservative management options for this frequently overlooked area of practice.
