Which bathroom quote is actually cheaper once the missing items and allowances are included?

The lowest quote is often the one that leaves the most out. Waste removal, the waterproofing flood test, screed falls, tile trims, the shower screen, permits and making good can all be "not mentioned", and low provisional allowances make a quote look cheaper than it is. This spreadsheet adds those gaps back and shows each contractor's true cost.

In the worked example: Quote A was the cheapest on paper at $9,890. After 13 missing items ($4,610), low allowances ($3,024) and VAT it never mentioned ($876), its true cost was $18,400, the most expensive of three quotes. The best value was a quote that looked $5,350 more expensive.
