Silent meditation
Invocation to Sri Ramana Maharshi
A reading from The Importance of Practice and Effort by Michael Langford
Annamalai Swami page 67:
Your most important objective must be realising the Self
If you have not done this you will spend your time in ignorance and illusion
Don't be discouraged by the length of the journey
And don't slacken in your efforts to get home
Don't waste energy in thinking how well or how badly you are doing in your meditation
The mind only gets dissolved in the Self by constant practice
At that moment the I and the body ideas disappears
Just as darkness disappears when the sun rises
The desire for enlightenment (Liberation) is necessary because without it you will never take the necessary steps to realise the Self
You have to make an enormous effort to realise the Self
You dissipate your desire for the Self by undertaking all kinds of useless activities that waste your time and lead to attachment
You can only put your attention on one thing at a time. While it is on the mind or body it cannot be on the Self.
Conversely if you put your attention on the Self and become absorbed in it there will be no awareness of mind and body.
