NOBODY’S ENEMY

The Unsolved Murder of Chanda Mwansa

In the quiet town of Mwela, Chanda Mwansa’s death leaves behind more questions than answers.

Chanda is a respected guesthouse proprietor who has rebuilt her life far from the shadows of her past. But shortly before her death, unsettling events begin to emerge: a mysterious telephone call from Lusaka, an unusually large cash withdrawal, an injury that was never formally reported, and a locked room at the guesthouse that raises questions investigators cannot easily answer.

Then Chanda is found dead.

What follows is an investigation shaped by conflicting testimonies, uncertain memories, suspicious circumstances, and theories that refuse to settle into a single truth.

At the centre of the mystery are four people whose lives become intertwined with Chanda's final days: Kondwani Phiri, the young man she had taken into her home and employed at the guesthouse; Bwalya Chishimba, her former husband; Dr. Mutinta Sikazwe, her closest friend and the town doctor; and the shadow of Emmanuel Sata, a former business partner from Lusaka whose troubled history with Chanda raises questions about a past she may never have completely escaped.

But the deeper the investigation goes, the less certain everything becomes.

Was Chanda’s death connected to the life she left behind in Lusaka? Did someone close to her know more than they revealed? Why did Kondwani disappear from Mwela the night after her body was discovered? And how much can investigators trust memories that have been reshaped by years of fear, grief, rumours, and speculation?

For more than a decade, the case has resisted a single convincing explanation. Theories emerge, evidence is examined, contradictions surface, and the people of Mwela develop their own versions of what happened. Yet none provides the certainty everyone is searching for.

Nobody’s Enemy is more than a murder mystery. It is a story about truth, memory, silence, justice, grief, and the fragile nature of human perception. It explores what happens when an investigation reaches its limits but the questions refuse to disappear.

Rather than rushing toward an easy conclusion, the story invites you to examine the evidence, question every theory, and decide for yourself what might have happened.

Because sometimes the most haunting mysteries are not the ones without clues.

They are the ones where everyone has a story, but nobody has the whole truth.

Some truths stay buried. Some questions never die.
