A Tent in the Woods (Mittens)
These mittens are worked in a modified half fisherman’s rib, which resembles brioche but is easier to work. In the centre of the front and back of each mitten is a chevron ‘fern’ motif worked with cable.

Sizing:
The pattern is written for adult hand sizes S and M.
Approximate hand length (from tip of middle finger to wrist crease):
- Size S = 17 cm (6 1/2 inches)
- Size M = 18 cm (7 inches)
Yarn:
Choose a DK (8 ply) yarn with a gauge of about 22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm in stockinette.
The example in the images is worked in Skeinz Southlander DK, 100% NZ wool.
Approximate Yardage:
- Size S: 140 m (155 yards)
- Size M: 155 m (170 yards)
Gauge:
22 sts and 30 rows in stockinette (or 25 sts and 40 rows in the modified half-fisherman's rib stitch detailed in the pattern).
