Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep (SSAA) (2013)
A moment of beautiful calm in mad surroundings, allowing one to pause and reflect. This is the aura of Do not stand at my grave and weep, featuring close harmonies, suspensions and slightly unexpected harmonies. The music deliberately features very few dynamics and articulation marks, allowing the performers involved to make the piece their own.
This setting of Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep is one part of Jenni Requiem. The ethos of the Requiem is to reflect, reminisce and eventually accept the concept and presence of death within our lives, and to contemplate the fact that, regardless of religion, we will all experience death, and can share some common ground in our feelings and reflections upon it. The sentiment of this text lends itself perfectly to this suite of pieces.
