The Nuts and Bolts of Heathen Magic II: Fate and the Witch

What is this thing we call “fate,” and what do we know about how it may have been understood by historical Heathens? More importantly, though, what relevance does this knowledge have to the Heathen Witch?

In the third class in the Elves, Witches and Gods series of classes, I continue my deep dive into the material from chapter five, answering all of these questions and more.

I begin with the Norns, their powers, their relationship to magical practitioners, and the power of fateful speech. Then I dig deeper into the various historical words for “fate” in the Old Norse and Old English sources before taking a look at some possible connections with fiber magic. Finally, I dig into the ethics and patterns of life in a wyrded world, as well as its implications for magic and divination.
