Is Happiness a Choice?

Happiness is one of the most commonly used words. Let me suggest that the discussion about happiness is endless. Happiness is really a subjective thing. The word indicates something happens that makes us feel a positive way. Happiness is the state of being happy or experiencing positive emotions.

A lot of happiness comes down to attitude. A good attitude can make almost any lifestyle a truly productive one, even if it doesn't include a bunch of "stuff". The definition of happiness differs for every individual; just as everyone have their own personal needs.

For most people, accomplishing an excellent career path provides happiness. Bringing happiness on the face of the deprived can give some people happiness. While for some, it is their fulfillment of goals and objectives that gives them happiness.

When you get right down to it, happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy. There's going to be stress in life, but it's your choice whether you let it affect you or not. A number of factors that I group into essential and additional contribute to your happiness.

From childhood we have formed our own meaning of happiness. All of our perceptions are as a result of our conditioned development. We learn how to define happiness from by society, teachers and, of course, our parents. For this reason, few of us have actually given much thought about what exactly causes us to feel happy. We simply feel happiness according to our present status, and this feeling has been left to our subconscious.

A lot of small things can give us happiness. For example, just the thought of spending money or shopping simply tends to excite us and makes us feel happy. In a like fashion, new ideas and opportunities have a similar effect on us. This state of excitement makes us picture out things associated with these incidents.

For instance: while getting an office bonus, the mindset of going on vacation wouldn’t only make us excited, but also make us visualize and plan f o r the holiday. The fact is, we would feel the happiness without actually being on the vacation itself! However, once being on the actual vacation, the excitement tends to slow down as one begins to have the feeling of contentment.

This case i s a l s o s i m i l a r with objects. We are quite eager to buy the latest cell phone, I-pod, laptop or the latest car. But once we own these things, the anticipation settles down and the appeal does not remain the same. And when another new product is launched, the cycle of excitement starts all over again.

Let’s pause here for a second, and seriously think about the domain of our happiness. Is our domain of happiness limited to spending good time with family or friends only? Is it pertained to acquiring latest objects only? Does it end at wishes being fulfilled? We are so involved in this cycle of wishes that we actually forget to see what happiness really is and how it can be achieved.
