The "universal basic income" has been being discussed for several years now. This is the idea that everyone in a society--a tribe, a town, a state, a nation--receives a regular income from the government. In some models, this income is meant to be enough to live on. In other models, it is meant to be enough to make things easier--so people don't starve, don't fret over every bill, etc.

This short story dramatizes and explores what this might look like in the United States.

I'm trying an approach titled "Pay What You Want," because I trust my work. I know my stories are good. I also trust people to recognize that quality and pay what they think the story is worth. Also, I know how hard it is to judge new writers, so I want to make it easy for people to try my work.
