In this quick and easy Owl as a Witch Halloween art project, students draw and paint an owl wearing a witch hat, then create a resist pattern background for an extra magical touch. It introduces wax resist painting, directed drawing and playful Halloween themes using just wax crayons and black and brown paint.

It is a low-prep lesson for teachers and homeschoolers, and it works for all skill levels. Use it as a Halloween-themed art lesson, a quick project before the holiday, or a way to introduce resist painting techniques.

HOW TO USE IT

Look over the lesson plan for the steps and materials, and gather the materials in advance. Read through the visual and text step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the handouts students need, such as the step-by-step drawing sheet and rubric.

Print the example artwork in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then project the PDF, show it under a document camera, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description, so the lesson stays clear for you and your students.
