Decisions you can stand behind. Mistakes you can put right. Concerns you can respond to.

The BACP Ethical Framework 2026 applies from 3 November 2026. It asks every counsellor to be able to explain the reasoning behind an ethical decision, to be honest and open when something goes wrong, and to protect people from harm.

These three models give you a clear route through each.

  1. The STAND model™: ethical decision making
  2. The MEND model™: being open when something goes wrong
  3. GUARD model™: responding to a safeguarding concern

  • The MEND model™ guide, worked example and fillable worksheet (PDF).
