Light as a whisper and intricate as nature itself, Taraxacum draws inspiration from the delicate form of a dandelion ready to scatter its seeds to the wind. This semi-circular shawl combines bold contrasts with an airy, almost embroidered effect to create a design that feels both organic and architectural.

Construction

Taraxacum is a top-down half-circular shawl started with an i-cord tab, then shaped by increases alternatively positioned after the CC lines created by simply slipping stitches when working with the main color. Lateral i-cords give a finished look with no effort.

The delicate dip stitches add a touch of whimsy, mimicking hand embroidery without interrupting the flow of the knitting.

Size: One Size.

Finished measurements: Wingspan 150 cm / 59”; depth 56 cm/22”.

Yarn

MC: Miss Babs Avon (85% 19.5 micron Merino wool, 15% silk; 490 yards [448 m]/100 gr), col. McHale’s, approx 400 m/437.5.

CC: Miss Babs Estrellita (92% superwash Merino wool, 8% Lurex; 400 yards [365 m]/115 g), col. Walk in the Park, approx 549 m/ 600 yds.

Note: Choose two yarn colors with a good contrast between them.

Needles

One 80 cm / 32” circular needle (or straight needles if preferred) in size needed to obtain gauge.

Suggested needle size: 3.25 mm /US 5.

Notions

2 markers A, 6 markers B, 6 markers C, 6 markers D, 1 marker E (21 markers total)

Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Gauge

21 stitches and 44 rows = 10x10 cm (4”) in two-color garter stitch, measured after blocking.

Note: Gauge is not critical for this project but may affect yardage and final measurements.
