Touched in the Tidepool

Kai goes to the cliffs for silence.

The tidepool wants him for something else.

Drawn down a forbidden coastal path by moonlit water and restless dreams, Kai discovers a tidepool unlike any he’s seen, warm when it shouldn’t be, glowing from within, and pulsing with a slow, ancient heartbeat.

The tattoos across his skin respond first, their symbols lighting beneath the waves as though answering a call older than human memory.

When Kai enters the water, the pool awakens.

Tendrils rise from the depths, reading the ink etched across his body, studying the patterns, recognising something written in him long before birth. What begins as curiosity becomes certainty: the tidepool has chosen him. Claimed him. And the entity beneath its surface does not intend to let him leave unchanged.

As the water thickens around him and the glowing tendrils wrap him in impossible warmth, Kai realises the legends were never warnings.

They were promises.
