Cielo de Cosecha (Spanish for “harvest sky”) is a scarf/shawlette hybrid that is cozy but is also utilitarian. The bulky yarn makes this scarf something perfect to wrap around yourself on a chilly day and keep cozy. The lace border and simple body stitch make it perfect to grab as you leave, regardless of how casual or elegant your outfit is. The lace border is a faux cable that uses no cable crosses, only simple decreases. The border is worked alongside the moss stitch body of the scarf. It can be worked from either charted or written instructions.

Cielo de Cosecha is a companion piece to my other pattern, Cosecha de Trigo, a convertible scarf/cowl with similar construction and a lace cable border.

File is a PDF download of the knitting pattern to make this scarf.

Materials:
  • 170-190 yds 5-6 WPI super bulky yarn. Shown in 2 skeins Cascade Yarns Lana Grande, 100% wool, 87yds/200g in 6038 Navy
  • 10 mm/US 15 needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 6.5 mm/K-10.5 crochet hook (if doing crochet cast on)
  • stitch marker
  • yarn needle

Notes:
  • Pattern is both fully charted and fully written.
  • The crochet cast on creates a braided-looking edge that matches the slipped stitch edge of the scarf. The knitted cast on will also work, though it will not match exactly.
  • For a wider scarf or a shawl, continue working body increases until scarf is desired width. The Increase section will be the same length as the Decrease section.
  • If changing shawl width or yarn weight, please keep drape and yardage changes in mind. A scarf worked in worsted weight following instructions as written on the same size needles will be slightly smaller.
