Crazy Heart

Banjo Tab PDF + MP3

The opening track on James King's second album for Rounder Records, "Crazy Heart" features a classic traditional banjo solo by Tom Adams - straight-ahead with the signature Tom Adams twist and a lick borrowed from mandolin stylist David McLaughlin of the Johnson Mountain Boys.

This is a two-chord song - just G and D (or by the numbers, 1 and 5) - every vocal verse and chorus, and every instrumental break on the song is just those two chords.

Here's the chord chart:

G  G  D  D
D  D  G  G
G  G  D  D
D  D  G  G

The accompanying MP3 is Tom's solo banjo track from the original raw studio tape from the session. The MP3 matches the tab - banjo break, backup for the final chorus, and the Ending.

Bluegrass Trivia: The album title Lonesome and Then Some was suggested by Tom to Rounder Records.
