The Magic Emotion box
A self-hypnosis game to help your child get to know their emotions and find their inner resources, at their own pace.
An emotion isn’t a problem to make disappear. It has something to show us.
This little booklet shows you how to offer your child a self-hypnosis game. They notice an emotion, give it a shape as a character, and play with it in their imagination. The goal is to help them find a little more safety and choice.
What’s inside
- How to be there for your child during a meltdown, and when to offer the game
- Four simple steps: get into the game, meet the emotion, open the magic box, choose what’s next and come back
- Questions and phrases you can say to your child, ready to read out loud
- An “In My Child’s Words” page to jot down their emotion character, what happened in their magic box, and what they chose to do next
Who is it for?
Parents of children ages 5 to 10. No materials needed, just a calm moment and a few minutes together. They can take part by talking, showing, or drawing.
Good to know
- There are no right answers and no right pictures: your child leads the game.
- During a meltdown, there’s no need to ask them to play. Your presence is enough.
- If the emotion gets too intense or the difficulties persist, stop the game and reach out to a professional for support.
