This Shading and Value Art Workbook teaches students how to shade with value, use drawing techniques and create the illusion of form through light and shadow. The printable shading unit includes 10 scaffolded art activities that move from foundational to advanced shading methods, including blending, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and scribbling.

It is designed for upper elementary (Grades 5 to 6) and middle school (Grades 6 to 9) art classes, can be adapted for advanced younger students, and works in homeschool programs too. Students practice value scales, spheres, 3D forms and still life drawings, building drawing confidence as their work gains depth and realism.
