The 100 years or so between the accession of Queen Elizabeth I in 1558 and the death of Charles II in 1685 are probably the most important in the entire history of England.
These years saw the establishment of a tolerant protestant church, the growth of a strong sense of national identity, the establishment of ‘rule by law’, the adoption of parliamentary government and the beginnings of a colonial and trading empire protected by a strong navy.
This e-book is based on my ten-week adult education course and takes you through the most important stages of that transformation. It also introduces you to some fascinating and enigmatic characters along the way.
