Candle Making Pricing Calculator Spreadsheet | Batch Yield, Fragrance Load & Cure Time Cost, Soap Too | Excel Google Sheets
A CURING BATCH IS MONEY YOU ALREADY SPENT AND CANNOT TOUCH.
Most candle pricing is wax plus fragrance plus vessel, times three. It misses the two
things that decide whether the business has money in the bank: the batch costs that do
not shrink with your order, and the weeks your stock spends curing before it can be
sold.
CURE TIME IS CASH ON A SHELF. Soy needs about two weeks to reach full scent throw.
Cold process soap needs four to six. Everything in that batch is paid for and none of
it can be sold. Priced at zero, which is what every calculator does, it is the reason
a maker can look profitable on paper and still be short of money in the account.
FRAGRANCE IS USUALLY THE EXPENSIVE PART. At an eight percent load on eight ounces of
wax, the oil often costs more than the wax does. Guessing the load instead of weighing
it gets the cost and the burn quality wrong at the same time.
BATCH COSTS DO NOT SHRINK WITH YOUR ORDER. Dye, melt power, equipment wear and the
pour itself are spent once per batch. A batch of six carries the same setup as a batch
of twenty-four, and the per-unit difference is not small.
WAX STAYS IN THE POT. Residue, over-pour and a batch mixed short never become product.
You bought those pounds all the same.
A FAILED POUR IS DISCOVERED LATE. Sinkholes, frosting, wet spots and a batch that
seized all show up at the end of the cure, when the wax, fragrance and vessel are long
gone. The good units have to carry the bad ones.
MARKETPLACE FEES. You cannot add your margin and then subtract fees. That arithmetic
does not leave you with your margin. The price has to be solved backwards.
On the worked example included, a shop targeting 35% using the standard method actually
earns 14.30%. That one row leaves $3.36 on the table, and the workbook shows that gap
on every row you enter.
WHAT YOU GET
- Job Calculator: 25 rows, full breakdown per unit, correct list price calculated, plus
a column showing exactly what the shortcut would have cost you
- A cure carrying cost line no other calculator has: your cure time and your cost of
cash, charged against the money sitting in every curing batch
- Batch costs spread by batch size, not by order size, so a short pour prices honestly
- Setup: melter, fragrance load and cost per ounce, wicks, dye, labels, cure days, cost
of cash, labor, overhead, reject rate, wax and vessel yield
- Wax Library: soy 464 and 444, coconut-soy, paraffin, coconut apricot, beeswax, palm,
blends, melt-and-pour and cold process oils pre-loaded, costed per USABLE pound
- Fee Profiles. Etsy, Etsy with Offsite Ads, eBay, Shopify, Amazon Handmade and direct. All editable
- Break-even & What-if: your lowest acceptable price, a volume table showing what
changes when you pour 50 instead of 5, and a grid showing what a wrong reject rate
costs you
- Dashboard: four live charts (cost breakdown, correct vs naive vs break-even, cost
and price as the batch gets bigger, and price against reject rate) that follow whichever
job row you select
- Sales Log: what you actually sold, against what the model predicted
- Start Here: a plain-English guide, color-coded so you know which cells to touch
Works for candles and for soap. Soy, paraffin, coconut blends, beeswax, melt-and-pour
or cold process. Set the cure days to match and the cash line follows.
Eight tabs. Works in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, both tested. Instant digital
download. No macros, no add-ons, nothing to install. Every formula is visible and editable,
and so is the data behind every chart, so you can check the math yourself.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Etsy sellers running candle and soap lines, market and craft fair vendors, cottage
food and small-batch makers, and anyone whose sales look healthy while the bank
account does not. If you already charge for cure time and price by the batch, you
don't need this.
