Novel Science Sample Pack: Big Cats + The Jungle Book (Free)
Want to see how Novel Science works before you join my membership?
This free sample pack gives you a few hands-on science activities, plus pages from a reading guide to try with your read-aloud.
Novel Science pairs a classic book with real nature science. Your family reads one good story together, then gets outside, builds something, and tests an idea instead of filling in a pile of worksheets.
What's inside (13 pages)
From the Big Cats science unit:
- A Moving Tiger craft you color, cut out, and put together with brads
- "Why Do Tigers Have Stripes?", a camouflage experiment you do in your own yard
- Tiger Cream Pops, a frozen treat to finish the lesson
From The Jungle Book reading companion (grades 2–4):
- Student pages for Week 1, including About Rudyard Kipling, Discover India, and Predictions
- A Character Profile page you can use with any character from the story
- A Terms of Use page, so you know how to use these files with your own family or class
What you'll need:
Paper or cardstock, markers or crayons, scissors, brads for the tiger craft, and a phone or camera for the stripes activity. The cream pops use whipped cream, chocolate chips, and popsicle sticks.
How it works
Try the stripes activity first, since Shere Khan is a tiger, and it makes a good warm-up for the story. Then print the Jungle Book pages to see how a reading guide fits alongside your read-aloud. Print what you like and skip the rest.
If you enjoy it, the last page explains the Novel Science membership, which brings a new unit and reading guide every month.
