Triangle Exploration in Desmos
This four page document (available in the zip file as Word, PDF, and ODF) is a great way for your students to explore on their own how triangles work. Paired with the math website Desmos, students can walk through this activity at their own pace and explore on their own how to:
- Form equilateral, scalene, and isosceles triangles
- Classify a triangle as either right, acute, obtuse, or equiangular
- Explore the relationship between a triangle's angles
- Explore the relationship between a triangle's sides
Students will appreciate the hands-on approach that they get to be in charge of for their learning of this essential geometry foundation. Each student gets to explore at their own pace, but this activity should last the entire class period. They can use their own Chromebook or laptop to access Desmos.com, and use this document as instructions on exploring triangles. This is a good activity at the start of triangle introduction, for substitute teachers to oversee, or for extra credit students can complete at home. There are three parts, four pages, and 40 questions included in this document.
