The MagicHand Program: Portion Control for Lifelong Health

This course introduces Dr. Anne’s groundbreaking hand-based portion control method—first brought to national attention in 1982—as a simple, flexible, and sustainable approach to weight loss, weight management, and overall well-being. Unlike traditional programs that rely on calorie counting, food scales, or complex tracking, the MagicHand method uses your own hand to measure portions, making healthy eating easy and intuitive.


Through three key practices, Apportion, Move, and Silence - participants will learn how to balance nutrition, find joy in physical activity, and use mindfulness to reinforce long-term results. Each lesson includes practical tools and guided exercises, ending with a personalized “Practice Page” to help students apply the concepts to their daily lives.

The dr.Anne Association is a nonprofit educational 501(c)(3) organization founded by Dr. Anne Seifert, an epidemiologist with decades of experience in nutrition and public health research. Based on her work at UC Berkeley, Harvard, and with the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Anne developed a simple, flexible, and proven system for lifelong weight control, healthy eating, and mindful living. Her approach helps individuals restore their health using everyday tools, such as portion control, movement, and stress reduction.
