VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Complementary therapies (VRQ) course

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies is a preparation for work qualification

that has been designed to prepare you for a career as a complementary therapist, whether it be as an aromatherapist, reflexologist or massage therapist/practitioner.

This qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice and business practice for complementary

therapies. Furthermore, you will learn about anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies.

You will also develop your understanding and practical skills to provide body massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. You may also choose to complete an additional unit which will develop your knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and wellbeing for the complementary therapy client.

This is a practitioner level qualification.


During the course you will learn:

  • A full body massage as well as a seated back massage, to include the massage techniques - effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, vibration, friction, passive joint movements and neuromuscular techniques.
  • Foot reflexology as well as hand reflexology
  • Blending of essential oils to use within your massage, reflexology or as a compress, inhalation, immersion.


This qualification is completed through the exam board - The VTCT (Vocational training and charitable trust); and is Ofqual regulated.

Pre-requisite / Entry level:

Optional - VTCT/ITEC Level 2 award in infection prevention for complementary therapies & sports massage


Course format:

11 practical (classroom) training / assessment / exam days + online learning modules + case studies


+ monthly video calls for coursework support (dates tbc)


Course content:

  • Unit UV31268 – Principles & Practices of complementary therapy
  • Unit UV31267 – Business practice for complementary therapy
  • Unit UV31299 – Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies
  • Unit UV31300 – Provide body massage for complementary therapies
  • Unit UV31301 - Provide aromatherapy for complementary therapies
  • Unit UV31302 - Provide reflexology for complementary therapies
  • Optional Unit: Unit V31303 – Healthy eating and wellbeing for the complementary therapy client (additional fee applies)


Duration:

  • GLH (Guided Learning Hours): 520. (GLH incl’s. practical, coursework, case studies, assessments, research/reading, revision, written exams)
  • Home study (Coursework): This is completed in your own time
  • Practical Training: Please check out our current course dates on our website for the practical training element, additional dates can be supplied.


Attendance:

11 classroom days (ALL dates must be attended)

Model required:

  • Yes, you will be required to work on models to carry out your case studies at home.
  • You may be required to bring a model for one to one training, and for your assessments


Case Studies:

To achieve this qualification you must carry out and document evidence of the following case studies:

  • UV31300 - Provide body massage - You must carry out and document evidence for at least 30 treatments.
  • UV31301 - Provide aromatherapy - You must carry out and document evidence for at least 60 treatments.
  • UV31302 - Provide reflexology - You must carry out and document evidence for at least 100 treatments.

Career potential:

Massage therapist / Aromatherapist & Reflexologist - employed or self-employed, working in a salon or spa or as a home / mobile therapist.

Help clients with common ailments such as muscle tension & aches, to provide a relaxation, stress relief, uplifting or balancing massage or reflexology tailored to your clients needs.

You will learn a full body massage as well as a seated acupressure back massage, hand reflexology, foot reflexology, and blending of essential oils for massage and other uses (compress, inhalation, immersion).


Additional Costs:

You will need to purchase your own products and oils to bring to the training & in order to carry out your case studies, ie massage medium such as grapeseed oil, aromatherapy kit
