Suffix Stress Patterns · B1+/B2 · Pronunciation | No-Prep ESL Pronunciation Lesson
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 pronunciation lesson on how five common suffixes pull the stress: -tion, -ity, -ic, -graphy and -ology.
After a clapping warm-up, students learn one golden rule (stress falls on the syllable just before the suffix) and notice how the stress shifts when a suffix is added (economy, economic). Each suffix family has its own rule slide and practice task, from marking the stress to word formation and completing sentences. A mixed review asks students to sort fifteen words into the five families, and a speaking slide puts the words into full sentences.
