Recently discovered archival footage of the Beach Boys in Sydney, Australia, 1978.
Included is footage of the group’s arrival at the airport, some intermediary shots as they arrive at the Sebel Town House in Kings Cross to receive a plethora of Gold Records, plus some candid shots of Al Jardine outside the group’s temporary home base of the Boulevard Hotel.
Added to this is footage of the Beach Boys two performances in Sydney on March 18 (night) and 19 (day), 1978 at the Sydney Sports Ground.
Most of the concert footage was filmed on Sunday the 19th from backstage.
The film ends with the group’s departure from Sydney Airport, headed to further live dates in Hawaii.
Although the film was initially filmed via silent Super-8, the master has been digitally transferred and an appropriate Beach Boys related soundtrack added.
There is no other known footage of the Beach Boys’ 1978 Sydney stopover and concerts.
