Novel Science Sample Pack: Outer Space + Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (Free)
Want to see how Novel Science works before you join my membership?
This free sample pack gives you a few hands-on science activities, plus pages from a reading guide to try with your read-aloud.
Novel Science pairs a classic book with real nature science. Your family reads one good story together, then gets outside, builds something, and tests an idea instead of filling in a pile of worksheets.
What's inside (10 pages)
From the Space Explorers unit:
- Planet Cards: color-in cards for the Sun and all eight planets
- The Moon Illumination Model, a flashlight activity that shows why the Moon seems to change shape
- Three Psalm 8 verse pages for copywork, writing, and tracing
From the Where the Mountain Meets the Moon reading guide (grades 2–4):
- The guide's cover page
- Parent Lesson Notes for Lessons 1–2, with summaries and answers
- Student pages for Lesson 1 ("Fruitless Mountain") and Lesson 2
- A Welcome page that lists what's in the sample and explains the Novel Science membership
What you'll need:
Paper or cardstock, pencils, markers or crayons, scissors, and tape. For the Moon activity you'll also need foil, a flashlight, and a popsicle stick.
How it works
Start with the Moon Illumination Model, since the moon is a big part of the story and it makes a good warm-up. Then print the reading guide pages to see how a guide fits alongside your read-aloud. Print what you like and skip the rest. If you enjoy it, the first page explains the Novel Science membership, which brings a new unit and reading guide every month.
Founding member pricing for the membership is open through October 31st, 2026.
