Christmas Teddies: 9 Small Cross Stitch Patterns

Nine little teddies dressed for Christmas, each one small enough to finish in a few sittings.

My Little Ones started life as mini kits for children and beginners to try cross stitch. We sold them at the big UK stitching shows and soon discovered that stitchers didn't buy only one! They collected them, often several at a time. I no longer do the shows, but I didn't want anyone to miss out on finishing a collection, or starting one. So I'm gathering the Little Ones into booklets, and Christmas Teddies is the first.

Angel Teddy, Christmas Eve Teddy, Mrs Claus Teddy, Santa Teddy, Shepherd Teddy, Teddy in Stocking, Teddy in Wreath, Teddy on Skis and Wise Man Teddy are all in this book, each with its own full-page chart.

What you need

- 14 count aida. The finished sizes are for 14 count.

- Stranded cotton in the 19 DMC colours on the shopping list. One skein of each is plenty for the whole book.

- A size 24 tapestry needle.

If you prefer evenweave or linen, work over two threads on 28 count and each design comes out the same size.

How big are they?

On 14 count aida, the finished designs measure between 1.4 and 2.8 inches (3.4 and 7.1 cm).

That size suits Christmas cards, tree decorations, gift tags and small framed pieces.

Good to know

- Whole cross stitches only. There are no fractional stitches.

- Backstitch outlines are shown in red on the charts so they stand out, with the thread to use named on each page.

- The photos show my stitched models. The book contains the charts to stitch them, not the photos.

Do I need to be an experienced stitcher?

If you can work a cross stitch and follow a chart, you have what these designs need. Every design uses whole cross stitches, with backstitch outlines added at the end.

Can I sell what I stitch from these?

Yes, in small numbers, and a credit is always appreciated. Please don't copy, share or resell the PDF or the charts themselves.

Can I stitch them on a different fabric?

Yes. On 28 count evenweave or linen, stitch over two threads and they come out the same size. A different count changes the finished size, but the stitch counts stay the same.
