This pattern gives something a little more interesting than a simple ribbed sock- a step up for a new sock knitter, or to keep more experienced knitters interested, while still being the kind of project you can carry around in your bag for a bit of on the go knitting. The sock is worked from the top down with a slip stitch heel flap; the stitch pattern goes around the leg and down the top of the foot.

Needles: 2.5 mm US size 1 ½ either double pointed needles or circular(s).

Yarn: 70 (80, 90, 100, 110) g 4 ply / sock / fingering weight yarn, 420 m per 100 g.
Sample shown in Knitpicks Stroll, 75% fine superwash Merino wool / 25% nylon, 211 m per 50 g in “Pumpkin”.

Notions: Tapestry needle, 3 stitch markers.

Skills: Cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, slipped stitches, working flat, picking up stitches, decreasing stitches, grafting stitches, weaving in ends.

Gauge: 32 stitches and 44 rows over 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch, lightly stretched.

Sizing: Pattern gives stitch counts for extra small (small, medium, large, extra large); approximately equivalent to 13 (16.5, 20, 23, 26.5) cm / 5 (6 ½, 7 ½, 9, 10 ½)” circumference at ball of foot. The ribbed pattern pulls the fabric in, giving a snug fit and making the sizing fairly flexible; if you are between sizes choose the larger size. Leg and foot lengths can be altered to suit.
