Petralona Cave is located on the western side of Halkidiki, about one kilometer from the village of Petralona, at the foot of Mount Katsikas. It is one of the most important caves in Greece and the second most visited ancient monument in Northern Greece.It is characterized by unique speleological, anthropological, paleontological and archaeological wealth. It contains impressive decorations with stalactites and stalagmites and its scientific importance is internationally known. One of the oldest and best preserved human skulls in Europe was discovered there, as well as stone tools from the Paleolithic Age, and a rich fossil fauna.
