SUMMER with poems by C. Jarvers

760 Pages PDF

Summary:

This house we live in is a little strange.
I cannot help but notice how your room
Retains a memory of winter’s cold
And bleakness. Even when the summer heat
Makes all things shrivel like a dried-up sponge
Your room will not forget the days of frost.

Or that old window right above my bed:
I cannot close it. Wind and rain drift in
And now, in summer, I have heat to share
But what if no one comes? I lie awake
Oppressed by heat that I invite, but more
By fear of colder nights and solitude.

Let us break down the wall that separates
Your room from mine, push my bed next to yours,
Share memories and fears and temperatures
And mourn not when the friendly season fades.
I’ll guard you with my warmth from winter’s harms.
You shelter me, my home is in your arms.
