These cuff-down socks feature a textured basketweave pattern with simple knits and purls, french heel and a grafted toe. 


Design notes


Worked top down with a ribbed cuff and a simple basketweave texture, french heel and grafted toes.

The pattern is written for working with double pointed needles (DPN) but can easily be adjusted for other methods.


Sizing and fit


SIZES

1 (2, 3, 4, 5)


Sizes 1 and 2 are based on children’s shoe sizes 23 and 29 EUR / 6 and 11 AU. 


Sizes 3, 4 and 5 are based on adult shoe sizes 37, 40 and 44 EUR / 6, 9, 13 AU. 


For best fit: choose size based on wearer's foot circumference and adjust length as needed. The finished sock circumference should have about 1.5 (1.5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5) / 0.5 (0.5, 1, 1, 1)" of negative ease.


FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Sock circumference:

12.5 (15, 18.5, 21.5, 24.5) cm / 5 (6, 7.25, 8.5, 9.75)”.

Leg height (adjustable):

7.5 (10, 12, 13.5, 15.5) cm / 3 (4, 4.75, 5.25, 6)”.

Foot length (adjustable):

13.5 (17, 23, 25, 27.5)cm / 5.25 (6.75, 8.25, 9, 9.75)”.

OR a single strand of 8 ply / DK weight sock yarn:


65 (110, 180, 230, 290) m /

72 (121, 198, 253, 319) yds of each.


Yarn A: 4 ply / fingering weight sock yarn.

Yarn B: 2 ply / laceweight mohair and silk yarn. 


Samples are knit with Patons Patonyle Merino 4ply (80% Merino Wool, 20% Nylon, 186m / 50 g, discontinued) and Knitting Man Recommends Mr Fluffy (70% Kid Mohair, 30% Silk, 420m / 50g) in colour 'Tonight You're Mine', held together.

3mm / US2.5, 5 double pointed needles (DPN).

26 sts and 34 rnds = 10 cm / 4” on 3 mm / US2.5 needles in basketweave pattern, measured from a relaxed fabric after blocking.
